Long day, reviewed H&W budgets, worked distracted driving bill, great brief from F&G Commission on their issues while trying to put a deal together for a final GARVEE bond that will take care of some safety issues as well as finish what was started well before I arrived in the House... GARVEE is like eating a raw egg, as much as you might want to, you just can't stop in the middle!

Quite a crowd for the public hearing this morning in JFAC. I hope everyone has a chance to use their 3 minutes effectively and we can keep everyone on message without getting overly emotional...

If we use $175m of "one time money" to plug holes in the Idaho State budget, aren't we just putting the pain off until next year? We are going to have to start changing statutes that will allow the Exec branch to run the state more effectively!

Dad said, "If you always do what you always done, you'll always get what you always got". It's time to change the way to approach education, we just can't continue throwing money at it hoping it will get better...

The Idaho Legislative session starts today. We will spend a few month balancing our budget to finish 2011 and set the budget for 2012 among fixing other statutes that might be outdated or creating statutes needed to manage the way we all do business. It's a very challenging and interesting environment. Please communicate with your state legislators, we represent you in this process!

Spent the day at the Capital listening to the presenters before the Economic Outlook Committee to better understand our potential revenue target for 2012. Great inaugural ceremony at noon and visited with many friends coming back to town to do the State's work when we start session Monday.
